This round we look at the two SyFy movies. First up is Ferocious Planet staring Joe Flanigan from (Star Gate Atlantis fame) and Catherine Walker (known from Leap Year and Patricks Day). Our adventurers are sweep onto a parallel dimension where survival isn't very easy given the local natives. This film has plenty of bad CGI, shaky science and poor production value. All that given it's still a good popcorn movie that reminds us why we love cheap movies. It does make me think however that several of the characters must be type cast into only roles which involve going through worm holes.
Second up is Cat. 8, a movie which borrows themes from about four different high budget Hollywood films. The cast does a good job of acting better than their d-listing says they should. With performances by Matthew Modine, Maxim Roy and Ted Whitthal this really does have the acting chops for those that enjoy good story telling, if only the story wasn't as predictable as it is. If you would like to see a budget version of "The Core" then this movie is for you. Full of plot holes, predictability and ample bathroom breaks this movie still entertained me despite all it's short-comings. Give it a shot, after all you've already paid for your Netflix subscription so it's nothing extra.
